Overview
Groups are managed in Artifactory from the web UI under Admin:Security:Groups.
Create a new group by clicking the New button next to the groups table.
A group is a role in artifactory and is used in RBAC (role-based access control) rules.
Default Groups
When creating (or editing) a group you can mark it as a default group to which all newly added users from this point will auto-join.
This is particularly useful when using external authentication, like LDAP, where users are automatically created on successful login and you want them to automatically be part of a certain group.
